YEAH!!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the process, though, all campers will be participating in <b>communities of inquiry<\/b> that will: prime the \u201c<b>thinking<\/b> pump\u201d; Show that there are <b>standards for thinking<\/b>, i.e., there is good or bad thinking; help develop a <b>respectful mode of communication<\/b>; help develop the <b>strength to listen<\/b> to opposing viewpoints; demonstrate the advantage of \u201c<b>thinking together<\/b>\u201d; and hence alter \u201c<b>person-perception<\/b>,\u201d i.e., we come to value each other even in disagreement; change the <b>structure of behaviour<\/b> in the sense that in becomes routine for thinking to precede action; strengthen \u201c<b>self-generative<\/b> <b>capacities\u201d<\/b> in the sense of being able to think through who one wants to become as a person; enhance <b>personal positive valance<\/b> as function of the fact that one\u2019s obvious \u201creasonableness\u201d is positively valued by others\u2014all of the above while engaging in real world, albeit fun, activities so that participants learn that thinking is not something done only in school, <b>thinking is important for life.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>WHO<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><span>Dr. Susan Gardner (Dr. Sue), graduate of Oxford University, Philosophy Professor at Capilano University and Director of The Vancouver Institute of Philosophy for Children (www.vip4c.ca), and Arthur Wolf from the University of British Columbia and Education Director at The Thinking Playground, will supervise the construction of the philosophically-based programs, as well as their implemen- tation. They will be assisted by Anastasia Anderson from the philosophy department at UFV who will also be present throughout the camp experience. Each camp team will consist of at least one graduate student, an undergraduate with extensive training in philoso- phy, and at least two volunteers, who have philosophical and\/or early childhood education background. (grades 1 - 3; ages 6, 7, 8 as of Dec.31)\n<\/strong>With access to natural splendor at our finger tips, campers will\u00a0<strong>bring ideas alive\u00a0<\/strong>while exploring outdoor spaces, encountering nonhuman life, engaging with science and stories, and getting their hands dirty.\u00a0<strong>Ideas Alive!<\/strong>\u00a0is for those children who not only want to play in their environment, but this about their place within it.<strong>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong><strong>THINK FUN: Curious Critters (grades 1 - 3; ages 6, 7, 8 as of Dec.31)\n<\/strong><\/strong>Interested in animals? In <b>Curious Critters<\/b> we help children explore our common need for food, water, and companionship. Combining an exciting mixture of outdoor play, indoor crafts, experiments, field trips and discussions, <b>Curious Critters<\/b> is an adventure in exploring our embodiment and our connection with the natural world.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>THINK FUN:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Enchanted Expression (grade 4 - 6; ages 9, 10, 11 as of Dec.31)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<strong>WHY<\/strong>\n\nFirst and foremost, these camps are designed to be FUN!!!
